about
“Is it Really Love” is a ballad about the misinterpretations of love language, following the perspective of an individual after an argument caused by the actions of an overprotective person. The song is about the excessive “care” one can have to the extent where it becomes toxic and they become the person they teach you to avoid. “Is it Really Love” questions if this is a way one is supposed to express their love or is it just toxic.
lyrics
(Verse 1)
You tell me come home 10:00 now it is 10:30
You lose your mind and you cuss a wave of hatred to me
You say that you care sayin’ there’s evil out there for me
But it is 10:30 you’re the one who raised hell on me
(Chorus)
Is it really love
Does it really mean you care
Is it really love
The way you show it isn’t there
Forgive and forget
The scars you have caused
And you open them up again
Is it really love
Or pretend
(Vere 2)
I’m told all the time that you’re keeping my safe
But I’m safer out there this far
Don’t know how I’m to cope
With the messes you make
And it takes me to the place where you don’t want me to be
You are the scary that you fear for me
(Chorus)
Is it really love
Does it really mean you care
Is it really love
The way you show it isn’t there
Forgive and forget
The scars you have caused
And you open them up again
Is it really love
Or pretend
(Bridge)
When we fight
The finished never fixed
Tryna’ stay mad
But each day I forget it all exists
I learned how to suppress all my feelings
Now today I don’t know how to deal with my shit
It’s too bad I don’t know what this feelin’
Is it really love I don’t know what this is
(Chorus)
Is it really love
Does it really mean you care
Is it really love
The way you show it isn’t there
Forgive and forget
The scars you have caused
And you open them up again
Is it really love
Or pretend
